The portrait of Adele Bloch-Bauer I, also known as "Golden Adele", is one of Gustav Klimt's most important works. The painting shows Adele Bloch-Bauer at the age of about 26. It is an oil painting with extensive silver and gold leaf overlays from Klimt's "Golden Period". Only the face, shoulder, arms and hands are painted naturalistically. The background, the dress and the chair are only partially hinted at, merging into abstract surfaces and ornaments. As a result, no clear spatial orientation is possible, which is typical of Klimt's handling of surfaces, colors and forms.
