The Twelve Sunflowers in the Vase is one of Vincent van Gogh's most famous paintings. Together with some other sunflower paintings, he recruited his fellow painters, Emil Bernard and Paul Gowín (who would soon visit him after the painting was completed), to the colony of the Provençal painter he wanted to find. In a letter to his brother Theo, Vincent van Gogh wrote: "I wanted to live with Gauguin in my own studio, and I wanted to make a series of photographs for it. Next, he explained that he started his work from sunrise without noticeable interruptions, because flowers wither quickly, Van Gogh chose a pale blue background, from which bright yellow flowers stand out, especially beautiful, bright years ago, the once chrome yellow sunflowers became even more brown. The original painting is currently in Neue Pinakothek in Munich.
